Across London to the Royal Docks
London City Airport sits in the Royal Docks in east London, about 21 miles from Tolworth. It's the only London airport where the journey from us runs right across the capital, either through central London or around it, so journey times vary more than for the other airports. Allow 60 to 90 minutes, and more on weekday mornings.
Why a car beats the train from Tolworth
By public transport, getting from Tolworth to London City means a train to Waterloo and then at least one change on the Underground and the DLR, carrying your bags through busy stations at rush hour. A car picks you up at your door and drops you at the terminal. For early flights to European business destinations, which make up much of London City's timetable, that difference matters.
A quick airport, a slow drive
London City's single, compact terminal means check-in and security are usually much faster than at Heathrow or Gatwick. The risk is on the road, not in the terminal. Our advice:
- Plan your pickup around the drive, not the airport. Allow at least 90 minutes on weekday mornings.
- Tell us your flight time when you book and we'll suggest a pickup time.
- For regular business trips, ask us about repeat bookings.
Travelling on business
Many of our London City passengers are travelling for work and choose an executive car, which gives you a quieter space to take calls or prepare on the way. On your return, give us your flight number and your driver will be in the small arrivals area to meet you.
